FAQ

What is Kashless, Inc.?
Kashless, Inc. is developing the first online marketplace where everything is free. We call it Recommerce.  Kashless.org helps people find and give away free stuff with their friends, neighbors and across the country.  It is reuse and recycling for everyone. Kashless, Inc. is a for profit, sustainable company.

What can I do on Kashless.org?
Kashless.org is the one place you can give and get free stuff locally and around the country.  You can search multiple sources for free stuff from our home page.  You can also use Kashless.org to post your own gently used items to multiple marketplaces for others to take off your hands.  Use the Kashless community tools to publicize the things you want and the stuff you have to give away in all the online communities you already hang out in.  At Kashless, members also TALK about the issues they are passionate about and share best/worst stories about living a sustainable lifestyle.

How is Kashless different from services like Freecycle and Craigslist?

  • Kashless allows you to search free listings on multiple marketplaces simultaneously.
  • Kashless allows you to post to multiple online marketplaces at once.
  • You can save searches and let us do the searching for you.
  • You have the option to have your saved searches emailed to you directly.
  • You have the chance to receive real time updates through sms when items you want are posted.
  • Integration with your favorite social networking sites is available.
    • Alert your friends of your postings through Twitter.
    • Advertise your postings among your peers on Facebook.
  • The site offers maps and directions, making pick-up/meeting up easier.
  • Users can buy postage through the site and have items mailed to them.
  • After contributing, Kashless lets you print tax receipts through the site.

Features to look out for in the near future:

  • Cue Management (The ability to manage offers within your personal Kashless account.)
  • The ability to track the environmental benefits of your participation, including carbon emissions, greenhouse gas and waste diverted from landfills.

What is the Kashless Foundation?
The Kashless Foundation is a non-profit organization (we have applied to the IRS for 501 C(3) status) that promotes reuse and recycling around the world.  The Kashless Foundation is supported by member donations, grants, and a portion of the profits from Kashless, Inc.

Is it Free?
Kashless does not charge to search, post or use any of our standard tools.

What features are included in the Kashless Alpha?
We plan to develop three major groups of features during the Alpha stage; Search, Publish, and Publicize.  Those sets of features will be rolling out in that order starting in December over the next couple months.

What geographies are served in the Kashless Alpha?
Kashless Alpha will only serve the greater Puget Sound area in Washington state.  Future releases will increase reach.  Send us Feedback to come to your town!

Why Alpha and not Beta?
During the Alpha we will be working primarily on features and during the Beta, scalability.  We don't want to move to Beta and expand the reach until we find the right combination of features that members find extremely useful.

How does Kashless, Inc. make money?
During the Alpha we are focusing on making our service as useful as possible to as many people as possible. A sustainable business requires a sustainable revenue model, which matches the value provided. We are exploring the right combination of advertising, value added services, sponsorships, and other ideas to keep the lights on. If you have an idea on how you would like to support our work, drop us an e-mail to support@kashless.org

Can I list my service on Kashless?
